Description:

Being a Mile long the site is very varied and ideal in many different conditions or as the last dive of the day. The north side slopes away to the sandy bottom typical of the sound, while the south is rock with plenty of kelp growth. It is also possible to do a drift dive, wait for tide to go out and get in at the NE end, the current will flow around to the south side pretty quickly dropping off around Tinkers Shoal, a good site for beginners to practice drift diving.

Sea Life:

North: dogfish, scallops, crabs, congers

South: large variety of fish, soles, dogfish, wrasse, lots of plant life

Hazards:

Shipping channel at either end, don’t go too far from the breakwater

Conditions:

Currents can flow strongly around the ends of the breakwater, north side protected by breakwater, south side often rougher
