Training

Pool-TrainingTraining takes place at St Luke’s Pool on Tuesday evenings between 18:00 and 20:30, and on Thursday evenings between 19:30 and 22:00. The lectures and pool sessions are repeated on the Thursday so you only have to turn up to one of them. All training occurs on St. Luke’s Campus, with lectures being the first hour (18.00 – 19.00 or 19.30 – 20.30) in various rooms within Baring Court building and the pool sessions being at St. Luke’s Pool for the remainder of the time.

Having completed the theory and confined water parts of your course you will be ready to begin the open water training which is carried out moderately locally, either in the sea off the south coast of Devon, local quarries or at NDAC (National Diving and Activity Centre). Having passed the Ocean Diver course you can either choose to leave your training at that or continue with further courses aimed at advancing your knowledge and experience within the sport.

If you’re interested, but not sure if diving is for you, you can try coming along to one of our try-dive sessions and meeting the other members of the club; either contact the Training Officer or have a look at the try dive page for more details.

Alternatively, if you’ve already qualified with another agency but want to continue with BSAC check out this chart to see where you are in our scheme.

If you wish to continue training beyond this point, the club runs dive leader courses and modules which count towards the BSAC advanced diver qualification. Each year, several of our members also make the grade as nationally qualified BSAC instructors.
