Welcome to Exeter University Ski Race Club!

Members of the University Ski Club have always expressed some kind of interest in racing, however as a sport it failed to be sufficiently promoted by the club over the years therefore has lacked the funding and support to attend races against other Universities in local and national competitions. The newly formed Ski Race Club now has the full support of the Athletic Union, a reliable and enthusiastic committee, a real passion for racing in events around the country and abroad to gain BUSA points for the University, and we hope that interest in the club and racing as a sport will continue to grow.

Training

We train for two hours a week on Wednesday evenings from 7-9, with qualified race trainers at the Exeter Ski slope (Directions can be found here). The ski slope also hold Saturday morning sessions 12-2 for less confident skiers who wish to improve their overall technique before they face the challenge of racing. The club consists of accomplished racers and beginners alike so there is no need to feel pressured or intimidated, although I would stress that as a member of a sports club you must have some interest in racing and attending training sessions.

Races

We race for the King’s League against other university ski and snowboard clubs, the Western races are held in Gloucester, at which the Exeter Ladies team were undefeated last season 2004-5 – the first time this has been done by ANY team in the history of the King’s League. We currently take two mixed teams and one ladies team to races so we hope to make up some new teams and see some fresh faces this season. Mixed teams consist of five people (at least one male and one female), and races are in a relay style against other teams of Five. Points are tallied up depending on how many races your team wins. There are three rounds per race and 4 races per season then the finals in High Wycombe.

Holidays

We also take teams to BUSC (British Universities Snowsports Council) events, at which we can attain BUSA points. These are held in Scotland on dry slopes and in France where racers can have a go at courses on snow. There will be news on the BUSC Main Event held at Easter coming soon!
