When someone mentions archery, it is hard to ignore the romantic imagery of Robin Hood, who has become synonomous with the Longbow. Whether the man existed or not may be up for debate, but the grace and simplicity of the bow is not, with entire empires being built from skill with bows. From the Mongolians charging across the Asias, to the English through Europe and finally to native Americans striking back at colonials, the bow in its many forms has had an impact far greater than the humble appearance leads you to believe.
Modern day archery is no longer about warfare, but is now about enjoyment. Whether your idea of fun is a relaxing day in a field, a high pressure competition situation, running around a forest or just the endless pursuit of perfection, modern archery, and the Exeter University Archery Club, offers a wide range of appeal to so many individuals. For beginners, we offer a comprehensive introduction course which will allow you to shoot both safely and with a good technique and style, as well as allowing you to explore different bow styles. For the more experienced archers, we have access to both 10 yard and 20 yard indoor ranges, as well as an outdoor range covering well beyond 90 metres.
We also cater to a wide variety of archers. For the serious competitor, we compete within our regional University league against Bath, Plymouth and Swansea, and regularly enter teams to the national indoor and outdoor university tournaments. We will also point you in the right direction for local competitions, and will you will have access to our club coach for perfecting your technique. At the other end, the club runs several socials throughout the year, as well as providing an enjoyable environment to simply turn up and chat at regular sessions.
So regardless of what you want to achieve at University, whether to be a world class athlete, to make a circle of friends or, so very unusually, to come away with a good degree, the Archery club can help you hit your targets.
